happy april fools day!

Per Wikipedia, "April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day is a day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible…The earliest recorded association between April 1 and foolishness can be found in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (1392). Many writers suggest that the restoration of January 1 as New Year's Day the 16th century was responsible for the creation of the holiday, but this theory does not explain earlier references."

Whenever or however it began, April Fools Day is now and always will be. Do you celebrate the day with a good practical joke? I haven’t since grade school. Eh. I just don’t get into it. Mazel tov to those who do though! Celebrate away! There have been several practicl jokes around work this morning. I’ve just never been good at practical jokes. I am either am afraid it will cause to much havoc (yup I'm a wimp!) or I get too excited and give away the end. It’s the same with giving presents. I can never wait! I have no patience in case you couldn’t tell. None. I am probably the most impatient person in the world! But I’m working on it!

I think Jon and I may go on a picnic tomorrow. It is supposed to be a beautiful 80 degrees! I want to be like one of those couples you see in books or movies, just lying on a blanket in the middle of a park reading, or talking. Wine will of course be involved!

Oh and.....my shopping hiatus is over! ( yes I cheated to buy New Moon...and the soundtrack...oh who cares it was New Moon!) I would be out getting a few things right now, but the mr. is getting new glasses. He desperatley needs them (he has had his current ones since 2002!) and I'm excited to see them on his face! Since we're are spending money on those, I will be waiting to shop. Stay tuned though, I promise there will be shoping in the future!

oh, and by the way, go here: http://colormekatie.blogspot.com/
It's amazing! She inspires me to have fun like I was 9 again! And why shouldn't I? I've earned it! Hell, anyone who lives in the real world has earned it! So have fun! And visit her blog. GO NOW!

the last day of march

Holy monkeys, tomorrow is April! How did that happen? It feels like I was just ringing in 2010 yesterday, now I’m suddenly 3 months in? Whew, this year is flying! I wish time would slow down so I can enjoy it. I think part of the problem is that I LIVE for my weekends. That’s the only time I get to see Jon. I guess all that time spent wishing my weeks away finally paid off. My wish came true. Now I wish it hadn’t. Hehe, reverse wish! Anywho, a lady who is inspiring me right now is Zooey Deschanel. She is one of my favorite fashion inspirations. I love her in anything I’ve ever seen her in. She has a band with M Ward, She and Him. Check it out they are amazing! I need to get their albums! She does everything! Have you seen her cotton commercial?!?! Sigh. So here are some pictures of the lovely Zooey Deschanel, may she inspire you also.

By the way, you should write someone a letter. Not an email, but a handwritten letter. Everyone loves to get mail. We are inundated with emails everyday, and lets face it, there is nothing special about getting an email. Now picture getting home, checking you mail, and finding a hand written letter. Or even a card with a handwritten note in it. Would that not make your day? It would make mine! So give up the tech for just a wee bit and write someone an old fashioned letter. Bonus points if it is a love letter! Remind someone you care about them by taking the time to write them a letter. I am going to write my grandma one…and jon…and my parents. Go! Do it now! Maybe you’ll get one in return!

Oh and a random thought for the day, anyone else wish they could have seen Garth Brooks back in the day? I hear his concerts were legendary!

Things I'm Lovin' Today!

The New Moon Soundtrack. Even if you aren't a New Moon fan, you have to check it out! It's just a fantastic compilation of artists. I have been listening to it practically non stop in my car. Just listen to it and you will fall in love!

I discovered Poladroid! I am probably the last person in the world to find this, but I am loving it! I so miss Polaroids. There is just something magical about them. Poladroid isn't quite as magical, but I still love it! Here is my first one!

My cat Topeka is too cute! As I sit here typing, he is laying next to the computer staring at my fingers! I think he's waiting for them to find their way to his chin to give him a scratch! I love listening to him purr!
I reeeeaaaalllly want all the costumes Alice wore in Alice in Wonderland. They were so beautiful! Sigh. If only I had the bod to pull them off.

I DROOL over this book!!! I have Alice several times over but this one is so beautiful! drooooooool

I have a serious hankerin' for this movie:

I love any movie that takes you to a whole new world of fantastickness. Yup, just made that word up!

Gilligan's Island. I've been watching this a lot lately. I can't believe they're going to make a movie out of this. It's just depressing! Don't they know you can't remake greatness!

And of course, the thing I love every day, The Golden Girls. Sigh. What would I do without these ladies? My dream of meeting them all may be a distant memory, (RIP Bea and Estelle! (Yes, we are on a first name basis!)), but I'll never stop loving these ladies!

Body favorites

I am feeling a bit under the weather tonight (allergies, sinuses, and pms make a nasty combo). I thought I'd just give a quick blog about my favorite body products.

I have really dry skin, so I have to use body lotion every day. My favorites are Victoria's Secret Love Spell and Sweet Daydream. I also love Bath and Body Works White Tea and Ginger and Midnight Pomegranate.

My favorite shampoo is Victoria's Secret So Sexy. I smells delicious! I only use it once a week on the weekends.

My favorite deodorant is Dove Original Clean Invisible Solid. I have been using it for years and I love it! It has a very subtle clean sent and works like a charm!

When I'm not using the body washes that correspond with my scented body lotion, I always use Dove Body Wash. I love the smell and I feel so refreshed after I use it!

That's all I use on a regular basis on my body! Most of these products have been in my rotation for years and I haven't felt the need to change. Now, I'm going to take my weary bones to bed and settle in with some Gilligan's Island and my kitties.

Chicken Meatball Soup

I made this soup for lunch today and realized I have never posted the recipe. I don't know why I haven't posted this yet. Jon loves this soup and it is a staple in my recipe arsenal. It is a variation of chicken noodle soup and it's super easy to make. Once again, it's one I make up, so I don't have exact measurements, but I will do my best. I apologize for the lack of picture, but I still don't have a way to upload photos.

Chicken Meatball Soup
1 lb ground chicken
1 cup bread crumbs
2 tsp season salt
2 cups frozen mixed veggies
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
2 quarts chicken stock
pepper and garlic salt to taste

Pour stock in a big pot and set heat to medium/high. Mix chicken, bread crumbs, and season salt. Form meatballs and drop into stock. Bring to a boil. Add cabbage and reduce heat. Simmer until meatballs and cabbage are done. Add noodles, mixed veggies, pepper and garlic salt. Cook until noodles and veggies are tender.

This soup can cook for quite a while before you add the noodles, so don't worry if it simmers for a while. My magic ingredient in this soup is the Rachel Ray Chicken Stock. I love her stock!!!! I literally buy it by the case! I don't know what I will do if it is discontinued. This soup (or really any soup I make) just isn't the same without it!

Eclipse Anticipation

Sigh, I can't wait for Eclipse to come out! Last week, I bought New Moon on dvd (and watched it 3 times, now my mom is borrowing it) and the New Moon soundtrack. I love it! I like the Twilight soundtrack (oh Iron and Wine I love thee), but I LOOOOOVE the New Moon soundtrack! I'm also going to get the score! It's perfect driving music, and since I drive a good 2.5 to 3 hours every weekend, I need good driving music! But I digress. I can't wait to see Eclipse! Oh and I WILL be seeing this one in theaters! Squee! June 30th here we come!

Saturday Rambles...I do that a lot

Today was nice. Mom, Dad, Kelly, Blake, Abby, Olivia, and Kaitlyn came to see our house! Dad had never seen it before. He helped us install a light in Josh's room and remove the power cable for the hot tub. Now we can finally get rid of that thing and clean up the back yard. It was really nice having everyone over. It feels kinda quite with them gone. I still have Jon and Josh here, but I guess it just hits me sometimes that I don't see them that often. At least next week is Easter so I get to see them again soon! Tonight, we are just hanging out, playing games and watching movies. Laid back and what not. The Easter bunny came this morning and Josh had a lot of fun! The Easter bunny left a trail of egg filled hits that led us in a treasure hunt through the house! It was a lot of fun and Josh really enjoyed finding candy hidden around the house. Of course, the last clue led to his Easter basket! I am so bummed b/c we can't find the Easter egg coloring kit! I can't for the life of me remember where I put it! It's so frustrating! Here are some things I'm grooving on today.

Days off are amazing

Today was tons of fun! Jon and I both had the day off, plus Josh was here b/c he's on spring break! We actually got quite a bit accomplished. This morning, we ran to Walmart to do our grocery shopping. While there, I got my oil changed, tires rotated, and a tire repaired. Once we got back, we built a blanket fort! You better believe I got pictures, but of course b/c of my crappy usb port, I can't upload them. We actually ate lunch and watched the Goonies in the fort. It was a lot of fun! Then, we cleaned the house and did laundry (actually I'm still doing laundry. Sigh, it's never ending). Jon also cleaned up the backyard b/c we had some junk out there from when the kitchen flooded. I still have to clean the bathroom and mop the kitchen floor, but that's it! I think I'll tackle those tomorrow morning. Now, we're playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on the Gamecube. It's really time consuming, but really funny as well. I think we're going to watch Jurassic Park tonight, then.....the Easter Bunny comes! You see, Josh gets special visits from Santa and The Easter Bunny since he has two houses! They always come to our house earlier since that is when he is here, and we found out that the Easter Bunny is coming tonight (cause Jon and I have his phone number see, so we called to see when he would be stopping by)! Tomorrow, we have family coming to see the house (hence the deep clean). Well, that was pretty much a post about what we did today. Sheesh, I'm getting boring! I need my ability to upload...and shop! Next week my 30 day shopping hiatus is over! Woop! Plus, I think Jon may let me take him shopping for jeans since most of his have holes in them now! So expect a fashion post coming soon. I made stroganauff (sp?) tonight, so here is a recipe for you. I made several changes to this, they are in parentheses.

Stroganauff
WARNING: There is absolutely nothing good for you in this recipe! I only make it once in a blue moon b/c it is really bad for you! But oh so good. It is a special meal in our house.
1 can cream of mushroom soup (I used 2, 98% fat free work fine)
1 cup sour cream
1 lb hamburger
1 can mushrooms (I use a big can b/c we love mushrooms)
1/4 cup butter (I used a whole stick)
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp flour (mine were heaping)
salt, pepper, and garlic salt (or minced garlic, whichever you prefer) to taste

In a large skillet, cook meat and onions in butter until meat is brown. Stir in flour, salt, garlic, pepper, and mushrooms. Cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in soup (I added about a cup of milk at this step to make it thinner). Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Stir in sour cream and heat through. Serve over egg noodles or biscuits.

Thankful Thursday

I have seen this all over the blog universe, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Here are some things I am thankful for today:
3 day weekends
seeing my honey
seeing little man
family visits
Easter egg coloring
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
little boys building cardboard forts
super sale Yankee Candles

On another note, I popped into my Hallmark to get a card for my nephews birthday and saw that they had some Yankee Candles 75% off! I checked it out, and lo and behold, they had Farmhouse Apple! Jon and I love this scent, but they discontinued it a while ago. My Hallmark had quite a few of them and they were on sale! Score! I ended up getting 3 large candles and one medium candle for $25, which is usually the price on one large candle! I was so excited! I love finding a good sale! Now, I am going to spend some quality time with Jon and Josh. Woot!

stepmom rant (labels suck)

This is not a rant about Josh in anyway. I am extremely blessed to have gotten this fantastic kid in my life. It is a rant about the labels that come with stepparenting. in particular, I feel the need to express my displeasure with putting the word step before son. I feel that once I have a biological child, if I refer to josh as my stepson and my bio kid as just my son/daughter, that might make him feel like I don’t love him every bit as much as my bio kid. I will. I have not a doubt in my mind about that b/c I already love him like he’s my own. However, I am not josh’s bio mom. He has one of those, he doesn’t need another. I don’t think that Josh doesn’t see me as a stepmom. He see’s me as the cool lady he gets to live with every 2 weekends. I’m like a cool aunt, but with more authority. And who came up with the step part anyway? What does that even mean? Step. Bah! I just don’t like it. I need another word. Some other way to describe it. I’m the one he bakes Christmas cookies with. I’m the one he watches Jimmy Neutron with on my laptop while cuddling on the couch. I’m the one who lets him have 3 cookies before bed. I’m the one who steps back and lets his dad do the heavy parenting (ooh maybe that’s where step comes from) b/c that’s the way we roll. (Side note, I totally wonder what it will be like when we have a bio kid that I have to help with the heavy parenting. I’m a bit scared.) I’m the one who makes him eat food he doesn’t want to try b/c he hates new foods. Actually, Jon does all these things with us too. There just isn’t a good word to describe my part, so I fall back on stepmom. I don’t’ feel that that offends in anyway, or at least I hope it doesn’t. But I don’t like to call josh my stepson b/c it just doesn’t describe our relationship the way I want. On the other hand, I’m not comfortable calling him my son (it just sounds like I’m trying to claim being his mom, and I’m not. As previous stated, he already has one. I don’t want him or his mother to think I would ever try to take her place.) I’m his…sarah. I guess that will have to be good enough. It works for us now. It just irritates me that there has to be a label at all. Any other stepmom’s out there feel the same way?

my mind at work

I had an idea to blog everything I thought about today at work, so I opened up word and typed away all day. Here are my thoughts.

Woop woop! Per the irs website, they have rec’d my refund and are processing it! Yes! I can’t wait to see that money in my bank acct, not that it will be staying. We are using it to put central air in our house and to buy wedding stuff (mainly my dress). But at least I will not boil once the weather gets hot! And I won’t be naked on my wedding day! Hehe, that could go in a bad direction, hehe. I am so a 12 year old boy at heart!
Anywho, if there is any leftover monies, I think I may get a new computer. My current one is just on the verge of crapping out completely (since most of its functions no longer work anyway! Stupid usb port). I don’t need anything fancy, just a basic laptop, so hopefully jon can help me find something cheap and in working condition. Le sigh. We shall see. Hmm. I seem to be saying that a lot lately. I need a new phrase!
Work work work
I don’t want my blueberry special k cereal for lunch. I really don’t. I want actual food. Real life will fill you up food. Hmm..panda express is right across the road. So is which which. But no, I must remain strong!
I am excited about this weekend b/c if is a Joshie weekend! Actually, he is on spring break, so Jon will be picking him up tonight, and he stays with us until Sunday! I have taken Friday off to watch him, and I plan on fort building in the living room people! (seriously when is the last time you did this? Blanket forts are so much fun! Go ahead, make one, I won’t tell) Hmm… and perhaps watch The Goonies while in said fort. Sounds like funtimes to me! I will take pictures, though sadly they won’t be posted (stupid usb port) can anyone tell I hate my usb port! It has halted so many projects!!!! Grrrrr. Perhaps I can scare it by growling at it. Or not.
How did it get to be march? Almost april!!!!! Where is this year going? I was just celebrating new years yesterday! Sigh. Why does time go so much faster the older you get. When you’re young you want time to speed up. What is the magic age that you realize time is flying by and you want it to slow down? Soon, I’ll be doing a blog about my 2010 year and ringing in 2011! Time really needs to slow down so I can enjoy it!
Work work work
I think this teeth whitening business may have been a bad idea. You see, I can’t have coffee, tea, dark sodas, basically any dark beverage, i.e. no caffeine. I have a big headache, and I want a big juicy diet coke. But I can’t have it.
Screw remaining strong, I want some panda express damnit!
Hmmm. I have a lot of split ends. And this work is really boring. I want to not be here. Whoa bad grammar!
Wohoo, just remember we’re coloring easter eggs this weekend! Yes!
Work work work
Fine, I’ll be good and eat the nasty blueberry. I miss you panda express (or really any Chinese takeout food.). 
Just discovered this blog http://getthewordsout.blogspot.com/ check it out
Jon really needs to decide on a song for his mother/son dance at the wedding.
I really love owls. I really do.
Ooh, I love cherry blossoms. I need to visit Washington. I wonder if you can grow one of those trees here…
I think I may try my hand at making headbands
Oh I need to catch up on my srapbooking and picture printing…and taking!
Gah! It’s only 1pm. (wimper)
My energy level just dropped to the negatives. So tired.
I wonder who named the days of the week. I should probably know that.
How is it only 2pm…how?!?!?!?!?!? Slowest day evah!
Work work work
I caved and got some chips from the vending machine. My stomach needs food…or fatty treats. Either way…
Oooohh but they are so good. (cheddar and sour cream, in case you were wondering)
Walter is an awesome name
If I ever see sc 005 or sc 010 again, I may kill someone
Ooh just got my second wind.
Well that was short lived.
I’m out for the day. Off to target to replace the rug that got ruined in the great kitchen flood of 2010. hope you enjoyed a day in my work brain!

random stuff

New Moon...drool! I finally watched it last night. I got the dvd and oh my. Love it! I can't wait to see Eclipse! I think I might watch it again tonight...hehe, I may be a bit obsessed.
So tonight, I started whitening my teeth. I got the gel and tooth form thingies from my dentist. I figured if I am going to do it, I should get the stuff from a professional. I know it's bad for your teeth, but I just want to brighten up my smile for the wedding. Well, now I have white spots all over my teeth. Is this normal? Does anyone know? I hope it is b/c if my teeth only whiten in certain spots, I'm going to be pretty pissed. Grrr. Face the wrath of Sarah! My dentist will hear about it! Hm...we shall see.
I miss my usb port and being able to put my photos on here. So I will leave you with some photos that made me happy. they're all from we heart it.

Random and a Recipe

Well Friday night was fun! I made a salad that went over well! I got it from my friend Jessica, so I have named it Jessica's salad. Here is the recipe.

Jessica's Salad
romaine lettuce
1/2 cup olive oil
4 tbsp raspberry balsamic vinegar
4 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp accent seasoning (I leave this out)
1/2 tsp poppy seeds (optionl)
rice noodles (optional)

Mix the oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, seasoning, and sugar together. Toss with lettuce. I only add rice noodles, but you can add craisins, slivered almonds, chopped onion, etc. Also, I do not add the poppy seeds. I haven't had a person not like this yet!

Yesterday we met with the pastor or the first time. It was...interesting. We shall see. I got to see my mom and dad's new kitchen/dining room. They completely redid part of the house. It is amazing! I am so jealous. I want that kitchen! Oh the things I could cook! Other than that, yesterday was mostly spent in the car. It is about 3 1/2 hours to my parents house, so a total of 7 hours in the car. Once we got home last night, we crashed. We picked up some Taco Bell on the way back into town, b/c there was no way I was cooking. I was exhausted! We went to bed at 10:30pm. I really was just exhausted!
Today, we have nothing planned. It's nice! We are just going to bum around home and do laundry and dishes. Jon got God of War III this week, so we've been playing that. It is pretty darn epic! I think it's gorier than the first 2 though. Also, since we cleaned out part of the garage, Jon has his man cave (he hates that term, but really what else do you call it?). He got a dart board out there and we have been playing darts quite a bit. I stink at it, but it's a lot of fun! Well, I think I'm going to catch up on reading some blogs and then settle in for a day of lazy! Have a good Sunday!

Friiiiiiiiiiday!

Here is a fun thing i found on http://thelittlethingswedo.blogspot.com/. It's fill in the blank friday! Here is mine.

1. Today I am wearing my new hankey looking navy blueish dress from Target over grey skinny jeans, with my new navy blue faux velvet flats! (and a cardigan while at work b/c it is freezing in here!)

2. My favorite childhood food was mushrooms and my favorite food now is mushrooms. Its always been mushrooms for me. I’ll eat them strait out of a can!

3. A day that I am too busy to talk to Jon on the phone is a day that I am too busy.

4. The last movie I saw was Alice in Wonderland and the next movie I want to see is Alice in Wonderland! I really want to see it again .

5. My favorite smell is peonies because, they smell sweet without being to sweet and they scream spring!

6. A weird little quirk I have is hmmm this is a tough one, I have so many! I suppose I will pick watching the side of the road when I am a passenger in the car. I have to watch the place where the road meets the grass/gravel/etc. I know weird!

7. When I take personality quizzes they always say I'm the balance one. I am always the middle ground in quizzes.

In other news, my favorite people in the world are going to be at my house tonight (shout out to dustin, amber, dan, and rachel). Woop woop!

Little Women

I love the movie Little Women! I really need to read the book. (insert sheepish grin here) I have the book, there is absolutely no reason why I haven't read it yet!

That's all I've got for today. I know, I know, bad blogger! Now I'm going to cry my eyes out whilst watching the aforementioned movie!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Happy st paddy's day! Did you wear your green? Another mini holiday history lesson! Per Wikipedia, "It is named after Saint Patrick (circa AD 387–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. It began as a purely Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 1600s. However, it has gradually become more of a secular celebration of Ireland's culture." A few factoids:
1. Indianapolis dyes its main canal green
2. Originally the color associated with Saint Patrick was blue
3. The shortest St Patrick's Day parade in the world takes place in Dripsey, Cork and lasts just 100 yards and travels between the village's two pubs.

In other news, there is still no sign of my tax return. I've never mailed one in before, so I have no idea how long it takes for them to come back. I hate the waiting! At least I am having it direct deposited, so once they process it, I don't have to wait for the check. 3 1/2 weeks and counting. Hurry up IRS, I want to buy my central air...and wedding dress!

I am rereading Bridge Jones Diary an Bridget Jones the Edge of Reason. Love them! I pick them up about once (or twice) a year and reread them. It never gets old.
New moon comes out at midnight on Friday! Sadly, I won't be able to pick it up until Sunday at the earliest. We are going to meet with the pastor for the wedding for the first time on Saturday. I am a bit nervous about this, seeing as Jon is an atheist and we don't know the pastor's stance on that. Hm...must stop worrying before get premature age lines!

In the words of Tigger, "Tata for now!"

A Blast From My Past

Oh to be a child in the 80's and 90's. It was the best. Here are some of my favorite forgotten things from my childhood.

Mixed Tapes/Cd's. Ipod playlists just aren't the same.
VHS tapes. Before we had DVR, we dearly loved our VHS tapes.

YM magazine. It defined our generation, now it's gone. Sigh.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Oh how I loved this show. I can still here the theme song and wish I had a gigantic map on my floor!
Super Mario Brothers. I still love my 8 bit characters. Phooey on fancy schmany graphics, who needs em?!?

Romeo + Juliet. There was no one yummier than Leo. And who didn't want to be Claire Danes in this movie?!

McDonald's Mcnugget Buddies. Ah the days when McDonald's Happymeal toys were cool.

The Secret World of Alex Mack. I read the books like crazy! I so wanted her powers...and her friends!
Double Dare. Need I say more?

Jem and the Holograms. I still have an old VHS with some episodes. I loved this show!

TGIF. Did anyone miss their Friday night block of funny?

Daria. The best thing that was ever on MTV. Why is this not on dvd?

Casper. I had a huge crush on Devon Sawa. I so wanted to be Kat that I wore a thumb ring for a long time after this movie!

The Babysitters Club. I still grab one of these when I feel like taking a trip down memory lane. And the movie? Still watch it. Guilty pleasures are so delicious.

I could literally go on forever about this stuff. Oh the cartoons...and music....and tv shows!!!!!! Takes ya back doesn't it? Take your own trip down memory lane! What was your favorite childhood stuff?

Fish Fry

Woohoo! I fried fish and it was a success! Josh had never had real fish before (just fish sticks) so I wondered if he would like it. Real fish is very different than fish sticks! Both he and Jon loved it! So did I for that matter! I have no idea where I got this recipe, but it's title is Long John Silver Fish Batter. I don't think it tasted like Long John's, but it was tasty! I did add pepper to the original recipe for a bit more flavor. This batter was crispy on the outside, but still nice and moist on the inside. (side note: I HATE the word moist, but it is really the only way to describe this)

Sarah's Fried Fish

3 cod fillets, cut into chunks
3/4 cup flour
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
pepper to taste
3/4 cup water

Mix all the dry ingredients together. Add water. (I had to add a bit of water as I went b/c this batter is quite thick!) Heat vegetable oil in small pot. Once heated, coat fish in batter and drop in. Cook until deep golden brown. (I knew mine were done b/c they stopped bubbling a lot. Still a few bubbles, but not many.) Place fish on paper towel to dry. I cooked my fish in batches b/c I wanted to use a small pan. Also, it allowed it to cool enough that we could eat the first couple of batches while the others cooled. FYI: My guys were full after only a few chunks of this fish and a few tator tots. It is very filling!

A woo and a hoo

Just had a super fun afternoon! Sonnie and Phil ( my soon to be in laws) called and asked if we wanted to go play mini golf! There is a kinda new indoor mini golf place here in town. Lots of fun! Then we went and had pizza. Thanks Sonnie and Phil! Per the above pizza, we are not having the fish tonight. I'm gonna try it for lunch tomorrow though. And I think I'm going to make oatmeal scotchies! We'll see. Up for tonight is lots of laundry. Woop woop!

Got a couple of awesome deals at Walmart today (I know, they're cheap anyway, but these really were good deals!). I got a pair of blue faux velvet mary jane flats for $5 and a pair of gladiator sandals for $1. $1!!! Clearance sales are like a sweet wine to me. Once I have a computer that loads pictures, you all are in for a huge picture post of all the things I haven't been able to post. Sigh. Someday.

I leave you with a preview of my evening:

{all image via we heart it}

Edit: Instead of watching The Lord of the Rings, we watched Aladdin. Josh was a bit scared of the monsters in the Lord, so we switched movies. I had forgotten how awesome Aladdin is! Pip pip and good day to you!

Free Saturday's rock!

We finally got some stuff done around the house today! We cleaned out 1/2 of the garage, pulled out and cleaned under the stove, did an ungodly amount of laundry, and cleaned up the bedroom! Later, we are going to put in the new stove. I'm so excited! I can bake without setting off the smoke alarm!!!!!!! Woot!

Josh's team lost their game last night, so the season is finally over. Phew! That was a long couple of months. It feels weird today that we have a whole Saturday to do whatever we want! However, he surprised the heck out of us last night by saying that he's decided he wants to play again next year! Seems it took him to the last 2 games to decide he liked it.

In other exciting news, last night, Jon ate alfredo pasta....and didn't get sick! I think that he isn't really lactose intolerant! Maybe it was just this stomach infection the whole time! I may be able to cook with cheese again!!!!!! Tonight, I'm trying the aforementioned fish. I'm nervous, but hopefully it will turn out!

I'm very excited b/c next Friday our friends Dan and Rachel are coming to visit! Double woot! Hopefully, Dustin and Amber will come too! Our official house warming party! I have to think what I'm going to make!

don't forget to turn your clocks ahead

I’m just feeling very blah today. Plus my computer is total crap. Hence my posting from work. By the way, just a reminder that we have to turn our clocks ahead an hour this weekend for daylight savings time. I hate this. I don't care to lose an hour of my precious weekend. Boo.

I love the smell of the first couple warm days after a long cold winter. They hold so much promise. Not that we don’t usually deal with more cold weather, but you know it’s almost over and there’s sunshine in your future.

My friend’s daughter has to go back in for surgery in May, so please keep them in your thoughts and/or prayers, whichever way you swing. They need all the support they can get.

I realized that I haven’t posted a recipe in quite a while, but never fear. This weekend I plan to attempt, for the very first time, to fry fish. Gah! What am I thinking? Success or fail, I will make sure to post about it.

The wedding is a mere 6 months and 1 week away. Sigh. I really should feel more motivated about it. I did see a cute idea that I’m think I’m going to use. Since we don’t have fancy centerpieces, I think I’m gong to get 2 big bottles per table that have corks in them. Then, I am going to put pieces of paper and pens around them. I’ll put a sign against the bottles that says, “Messages in a bottle. Please put your words of wisdom about marriage on paper and put them in the bottle for the happy couple.” Cute and assists the centerpiece debacle! I have NO IDEA what I want to do for my bouquet. And I still haven’t looked at dresses. Where does the time go? I’m waiting till be get my tax refund back so I have some extra money, then dress a-shopping we will go. Maybe once we meet with the pastor next weekend, I’ll start to get my butt in gear.

I am 9 days into my shopping hiatus so far so good. Although, my list of things to buy on April 1st is growing to an alarming size. I will have to revisit it and go with only things I need. Such as the adorable skinny leg work pants at Old Navy. Yep, those I need.

the sad and the happy

First things first. RIP Corey Haim.

On to happier note, Chuck Norris turned 79 today! Happy Birthday Chuck! He can still kick ass too!

And now my computer is acting like crap, so I must bit you adieu. Sucktastic. If I can get my craptastic computer working right, I'll post a post worthy of posting tomorrow.

Bits

Ohmigoodness! I may or may not be hosting Easter for Jon's family in 2 weeks! I'm excited! If we do get to host, it will be our first family holiday to host! Excitement! Oooh, I have to come up with a menu! I'm thinking the following:
a ham, made in the crockpot with brown sugar.
green bean casserole
corn casserole
braised cabbage
mac and cheese
rolls
salad
some sort of Easter dessert....but what?

Did anyone else want to wear every single one of the dresses Alice wore in Alice in Wonderland?!?!?! Love them! Want them! Need them!

I dropped and broke a pie plate on my foot. My big toe really hurts.

I want some of Cadbury eggs and cupcakes! Yum.

An Ettiquette Lesson of Sorts

Woop woop! I got my second comment! And another woop woop!

In other news (I say that a lot huh?), it was warm again today!!!! I really hope this weather sticks around! Or it could get warmer!!! I'll settle for either of those. (pfsh, right settle. I'm begging mother nature to keep it above 50 degrees).

And now I'd like to say a few words about ladies room etiquette. It seems that way to many people have forgotten the basics.
1. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use your phone in the bathroom! I do not want to hear about your life whilst trying to pee. Break rooms are there for a reason. Use them.
2. If you happen to make a mess, clean it up! How hard is that?! Wipe down the toilet seat ladies!
3. DO NOT LINGER! If you enter the bathroom, and there is clearly a person in distress, do not take 5 minutes to wash your hands. Do not brush your teeth, do your hair, apply makeup, or otherwise prolong you time in said bathroom. Take pity on the poor soul waiting, sometimes painfully, for you to leave. Someday, you will have a bathroom emergency and you had better hope someone like you doesn't enter the bathroom at an inopportune moment.
4. Never ever turn down a lady who needs a feminine product if you have an extra.

Karma, my friend, karma. Bathroom karma. It will come back around to bite you in the butt.

sunday nights suck

On Sunday nights, I feel like this.

{image from we heart it}

I feel like I need a little bit of this to make it all better.

{image from we heart it}

Oh what a wonderful moooorniiiing!

Well, I guess it's afternoon technically! Hello lovey people of the interwebz! I had such a great day yesterday! And last night Dustin and Amber came over which was the icing on the cake! They stayed until 2:30am! Do you know how long it's been since I stayed up that late!?!?! A loooong time! It was so nice to spend some time with them! Today, we slept late, then showered and lazed about for an hour. Now we are off to the gas station and Home Depot. I am getting staples for my staple gun! Yippee! Projects here I come! Then we have a cookout at Jon's dad's house. Then sadly, I will have to go back to Indy for the week. :( Sad times indeed. But for the moment I am super happy! I get to spend the next several hours with my honey! Woot!

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Woohoo!

We ended up seeing the 2pm showing of Alice in Wonderland. Go see it now!!!!!!! It was amazing! Even Jon liked it! The world they created was awesome and it was just fantastic all around, I can't even describe!! LOVED IT! LOVE!

We had dinner at the Hardwick house, where my soon-to-be-father in law made us some delectable ribs. Yum. Oh yum. My soon-to-be-mother in law made some really delicious casserole side dishes as well. Then we played Partini. Such a fun game! Then we headed over to David's house for a bit and played some video games. Now we are home and Dustin and Amber are coming over! Yipee! Funtimes, funtimes indeed. It was absolutely gorgeous here today! The sun was out, it was nice and warm, and the birds were singing! I am so glad that spring finally seems to be here. Tomorrow we have a cook out at Jon's Dad's house, so I haven't had to cook much this weekend. with the shopping hiatus going quite well, I don't have any new purchases to post. This hiatus is hard! Now I will take my leave. Night all!

Anticipation on a Saturday

I'm going to see Alice in Wonderland today!!!! There is not a word to describe how excited I am about this!!!!!!! AAEEEIIIEEEYYYY!! That's as close as I can come! First, we have Josh's game and depending on how late that goes will depend on if we attend the 2pm or the 4:30pm movie. The anticipation is killing me!

{image from yahoo images}
Anywho, Just finished my stretch's while watching Friends (The One Where Everybody Find Out, in case you wanted to know). I am trying to at least stretch everyday b/c I am sadly very unflexible. I can't believe how disgustingly out of shape i am. Blech. But I am on the right track to get healthier! I have been doing the treadmill and just a little bit of weights and resistance with my pilate's band. I also have several workout dvd's that I think I will start working into my routine for variety. I have one the Carmen Electra Aerobic Striptease: In the Bedroom dvd. I really like it! It is a good workout and makes me feel sexy at the same time. Carmen isn't the best host, but she gets the job done. I want to get the rest of her dvd's.
I really hope that I get to eat my soon to be father in laws ribs today. Yum! I don't even eat meat when its on a bone, but these ribs are the one exception. Yum. Just...Yum.
The sun is out, it's supposed to get up to 50 degrees, it's gonna be a good day! Welcome Spring!!!!!
